Game Drawing Perspective Critique

Game Drawings in Perspective Critique
Vocabulary to use: perspective, washes, watercolor, gradation, blending, colored pencils, overlapping, horizon, vanishing points, value, highlights, shadows

Please answer these questions as a blog post. We want to see your personality shine through in what you post. You will need to use the art vocabulary and show that you understand the project but also tell us about your experiences with the project, example your likes and dislikes.

Use these questions as a guide for writing your blog post/self reflection for this project. DO NOT copy and paste these questions to your blog to answer. USE YOUR OWN WORDS while including the vocabulary words listed above. Have fun with this!

Describe your overall thoughts on the final piece.
I had a fun time doing the game drawing because we where able to play the games and then put the picture in perspective. I think I learned a lot from this art peice because it was so different from what I expeirenced before.
How successful do you feel this piece is and why?
I feel my work was successful in understand how to use gradation, blending, overlapping, value, highlights, and shadows. All of which I learned from other projects we did before the game drawing. We had to use blending on the Ipad and Mrs. Rossi stresses shadows to three demensional figures give them a perspective.
What worked about this project? What didn’t work?
What worked with this project was by using colored pencils to make the perspective drawing come out to the person who was looking at it. In perspective drawings that is a big key if a person is looking for perspective they would want to see what makes the picture different from others which can be the shadows or the use of the horizon and vanishing points.
If you were to do this project over again, what changes would you consider making?
I would have tried to make sure I was more careful when using my washes and as Mrs. Rossi on how to use the paint brushes and how much water I needed to use. I would have hoped to get a better grade on the art that I did but I understand that I didn't make my art as well as I could have
What was the most difficult part about completing this piece and why?
The part that was most difficult was that fact that I wasn't used to water colors so I didn't know how to use them to make them lighter or how to make an area darker. I learned from the other projects before this one that places where light is not showing it should be darker but when I tried that I might have used too much water or too less.
What did you learn from this piece?
I had a fun time with this project I was able to understand all the key concept you have to know is vital to having a a good peice of art. I learned how to use water color and perspective can be expressed in many different forms.

Anamorphosis Critique Drawing

Anamorphosis Critique

Word Bank: Use these vocabulary words in your responses. Please underline or make letters bold when you use them.

Grid       colored pencils anamorphosis                 photoshop        transform         scale
Perspective      shadows             value
1. Describe the process you went through to change your object into the correct perspective to create the drawing. This is when you were in the lab.
To create this drawing we had to take it off the internet and put it into Photoshop from there we transformed it and made it long so if you saw it would have perspective. While I transformed the picture it got larger in scale this lead to anamorphosis, looking at a picture in a way that it appears normal at an angle.

2. How did distorting and stretching the object allow for you to create a drawing that would look different to the viewer?

By distorting the drawing it made it long and by stretching it, it allowed the perspective to appear. This made it look especially odd when looking at it straight, but this also allowed people to see that the perspective can make a difference in how you look at things.

3. What were the most important concepts in the project to make it successful?
The most important part of this project was the grid that we used being able to draw a part of picture individually makes a big difference than just looking at as the whole thing. Especially when doing anamorphosis the distort makes it look as if you are drawing it wrong, but if you are looking at one spot at a time it is easier to feel as if the drawing is looking good. Then in the end the finishing touches to the art work is adding color so by using the color pencils and by adding a shadow allowed value into the picture. Thus having a big role in the appearance.

Stencil Critique Drawing

Word Bank: Use these vocabulary words in your responses. Please underline or make letters bold when you use them.

Stencil                 Spray Paint       Xacto Knife        Positive/Negative Space
Composition    Collage                Photoshop        Threshold              Contrast

1. Explain how you changed your photo in the lab to create a stencil.

To make the picture that I had first got of the internet into a stencil I had to first had to make the background of my picture. This was a collage of many different things ranging from magazines to newspapers, and even advertisements. Next I had draw my picture onto a large piece of paper that we stuck to the wall. It was easier to draw because the dark's and the lights where already pointed out to me by putting in the threshold while we where using Photoshop early in the project. Next I had to understand positive and negative space. By understanding that key factor I was able to mark which areas I would cut out with an xacto knife. Which from there I would be able to spray paint through making the final picture.

2. When creating the collage background explain your choices of colors, materials (magazine paper, books pages, etc), and placement. How does it relate to your topic? If no relation discuss general idea.

When I was creating my collage background the choices of my materials varied anywhere from magazines, to paper, to books, and even pages. The colors was based on my picture I had chosen the darker areas would have darker pictures and places of greater need to be able to see would have lighter pictures just so I could have a reference when going through the steps of the project.

3. Discuss the way positive and negative space was used to create your stencil.

I had to understand positive and negative space, contrast, and composition. By understanding these key factors I was able to mark which areas I would cut out with an xacto knife. Which from there I would be able to spray paint through making the final picture. But even before then when I was drawing it was made easier to have drawn the places that needed to be drawn and also it helped me know which areas would have been dark that later on I would have cut out.

4. When using the xacto knife, explain the safety procedures, how to use the knife and any challenges you had to overcome while cutting.

When using an xacto knife you have to hold it downward and just cut. It has a sharp blade so there is no need to put so much pressure on it. Cut away from your body and never into your fingers. If your blade is loose then tighten it up so it doesn't fall off. Also if has a jagged cut get a new one it can mess up your art work. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A CUTTING BOARD MS. ROSSI GETS MAD! SHE HAS NEW TABLES. One of the challenges I had to go through is cutting my finger when I put my hand in the bucket i got stabbed without knowing so be safe.
5. How was your experience with the spray paint? Discuss how color choice is important, placement of stencil, and any other concepts you noticed while creating this.

I like my experience with spray paint I had used it before but never in doing art. Other than graffiti I had seen spray paint was not used for art. My color choice was vital because where I had my dark I had my blue and the white was the major part of my artwork so it was easier to see and notice. The  black spray paint allowed me to make my artwork pop out so it would be easier to see.

Print Making Response

Print Makinag Critique

1.     Describe the overall composition of your artwork (balance, unity, rhythm and movement).

My overall compostion of jmy artwork was based on balance, unity, rhythm, and movement. My balance in my artwork was with positive and negative space. The unity of corresponding backgrounds making it look real. The movement of the print shows how the animal is moving and where it is headed.

2.     How did you add texture and contrast to your print? Is this important? Why?

I added texture and contrast to my print by adding strokes to the tigers fur. Also in areas of high details such as eyes to become very distinct. Also i kept areas of darkness corressponding with areas of light. It is important because in printmaking you have to get texture to make a person to want the print. The contrast gives good balance to the artwork so that these two needed things work together to make the artwork look good.

3.     Explain how you used positive and negative space to show your image.

I used postive and negative space to show my image by using the black and white areas to show the areas of postive and negative space. The areas that most people would have cut out was the white space which would be the positive, but with my outlook of trying something else i cut out the negative space to make my artwork look original and show my image.

4.     Describe the craftsmanship of your print. (How good the project is technically crafted)

My craftmanship was very good depending upon how much time i spent craving out the illonium then how i prepared in advance how it would look. the idea of my craftmenship was good amd planned out so i had good ideas and that caused my craftmenship to turn out good.

5.     Were you able to achieve depth by showing a foreground, middle ground and back- ground? Explain.

I acheived depth by shoqwing the foreground, middle ground, and back ground. The foreground was where the animal itself was located the middle ground was the hill and the trees in the background. The background was the sun. These three things came together to help the print look good and achieve depth when someone looks at it. They can clearly see the depth of the artwork what is closest to them and whats the farthest thing away.

6.     Explain your experience with Printmaking. What were the obstacles and advantages?

I liked printmaking it was sonmething new I never tried and also was fun working with hands on activity other than just drawing in our sketchbooks. The art was hard in some areas such as when there was places of very high detail because it would be hard to tell if i got too much out or too little out. Overall the project was good and one that i would enjoy doing again.

Print Sketch Response

Print Sketch Critique

1. Why is texture so important to have in your sketches?
When drawing an animal it is critical to get those small parts of the animals body to make the drawing come to life. When you draw the texture of animal it instantly shows a part the animal you can rarely see. When people look at art the look for the fine details that make that certain drawing unique, and by adding texture it adds flavor to the drawing.

2. Why is it neccessary for you to have several references of each animal and each background? Explain.
To see the texture of different animals. When you see frequent lines or indents in animals you know where to draw the certain lines to make your drawing come to life. Many times the animals look the same but when you have many references you can see whats different about the certain animal and add it to your drawing.

3. When you look at your sketches are you able to see which sketch is the strongest and will make the best print? How do you know this?
I think the one of the Dragonfly will be the one to make the best print. The one that comes at you with an instant effect will most likely be the strongest drawing. I know this because when I look at other peoples drawings the ones I have an instant reaction to is most likely the one that I like the most. It would make a good print to see a Dragonfly up close in its own enviornment.

Chalk Art Drawing Response

Chalk Mural Critique

Self evaluation (must write at least 3 sentences for each question)

1. Explain your experience working on a team and executing your ideas for the mural.
Working as a team was helpful because we all where able to contribute in our own ways. Also we could show our strengths and help others out with their weaknesses. It was a fun drawing or mural because we communicated ideas easily and executed them to the best we could. By drawing a smaller verison of the mural we could see what parts would be hardest to do and which would be the easiest.

2. Explain the importance of collaboration when working on a team.
Its important when on a team to communicate and get others involved because when we draw we have to draw to our own strengths by also help others with there weaknesses. We have to tell people how we would like something done because if we don't then there is a bigger chance of messing up the idea of the drawing. When in a team by collaborating the job gets done quicker and is done correctly.

3.  How successful was this project? Explain how and why.
It was very successful because of all the planing that went into it beforehand. Before we had drawing we came up with ideas and gave critism to the ideas that needed it. Also we communicated how we wanted it things and accepted if we where doing something wrong.

4. Explain how you feel about creating artwork that others can interact with. Ex. Invoving the whole school?
I feel that is a way to get to meet knew people. Helps people show how the feel at school and also gives them a little more excitment walk from class to class. Alot of the art is very interesting so even without interacting with the art they could have fun looking at it. By having people interacting with the art that I make I feel that Im a part of something bigger.

Value Portaite Drawing Response

Value Portraits Art Critique

Self evaluation (must write at least 3 sentences for each question)
1. Explain the process you went through to develop your drawing.
The process of developing my value drawing started when I had to analyze the picture that I randomly choose. Then when analyzing I found the light and dark spots on the picture. When I put the sketch paper over the picture I drew aroudn the dark spots. When I was done it was like a puzzle so when the next step came I could easily shade in the different values. We used our pencils to color the back of the sketch drawing and then outlined it in our sketchbooks. Then we shaded in the different values to make a drawing with different values.
2. Explain how you found the different values in the portrait?
We found the different values in the portrait by using windows to see the values better. We where allowed to use the windows around the classroom to see the darker values. This paticularly helped when trying to find values around the eye where values are most dark.
3.  Did you achieve a full range of the different values within your portrait?  How?
No, I was not able to find the full range of different values, but I was able to achieve most of the values. This  is because a person has a lot more values than I could possibly draw. Although it was difficult I found a way of finding values. Such as putting the photo over the window and analyzing the photo before I started sketching so I could know where to look for the dark values.
4. Describe your craftsmanship.  Is the artwork executed and crafted neatly?
My craftmanship may not be so good,  but I did it to the best of my abilities. It is neat for the most part of my drawing because I was able to blend the values and also transfer gradually from dark to light. The only problem I had was not being able to pick up excess pencil lead sense I did not have a needed ereaser.
5. List any obstacles you had to overcome and how you dealt with them.
One of the obstacles I had to overcome was knowing how to draw the hair with value. Before I didn't know that hair had any value and it had a shape either. So when I drew the hair I made sure I was following the picture. I also had a lot of excess pencil lead on my drawing so to deal with that I used my finger to spread the darker values over.
